Fort New Salem School Tours Spring 2017

Fort New Salem is pleased to offer interpretive school tours in keeping with our mission to “preserve and advance the educational, historical, cultural, and social aspects of Nineteenth Century West(ern) Virginia”.

Those of us who “interpret” at the Fort consider educating the public – especially our younger public – our highest priority. To pass on the history and customs of our ancestors who settled this area of western Virginia accurately and passionately is the goal for which we strive and hosting school tours is a major part of that effort.

In the past we have scheduled tours as requested by the individual classes; however because of the growing number of requests, we have streamlined our tour calendar and will be offering  ½ day tours on a “first come – first served” basis on Friday May 12 and  Monday May 15.

We feel this allows us to consolidate our efforts and to provide a first class experience for your students. We provide a hands on experience with multiple stations. We tailor the workshops to be age appropriate. Tours can include a visit to the Fort New Salem Gift Shop.

Our fee is $5.00 per student with a minimum class size of 25. For groups smaller than 25, the basic fee is $125.

For further information or to schedule a tour contact the Fort New Salem Foundation at 304-695-2220 or by e mail.

We hope that you will consider allowing us to host your class at Fort New Salem. We make a learning memory that lasts a lifetime!
