BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Board Chair – Dr. Joseph Audia (term expires 12-31-22)
Joseph Audia, a native of Clarksburg, WV, received his doctorate in Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. He returned to West Virginia and established a private practice in Optometry located in Salem in 1983 and added a branch location in Harrisville in 1998. He is a consultant for My Vision Express in their Electronic Medical Records program. He is a past president of the West Virginia Optometric Association, nine-time past president of the Harrison County Parks & Recreation Commission and a member of and served 15 terms as president of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. He served as four term legislative chair of the West Virginia Optometric Association and worked at the State Capitol on vision health care reform. Audia is a co-author of the Salem City Charter and former member of the Salem Planning & Zoning Commission and Salem Blueprint Community Development Committee. He serves on the Salem Apple Butter Committee as their web master. He resides in Salem with Lena, his wife, and has two daughters Jennifer and Brittany.
Vice Chair – Kevin Fluharty – (term expires 12-31-23)
Kevin was born in Clarksburg on April 1, 1962. His paternal and maternal grandparents lived in Salem and he lived there with his parents, Henry and Carole Fluharty until 1965. Henry worked for the Kroger company and with each promotion the family relocated, 14 times in the next twelve years. When Kevin graduated from Hurricane High School in 1980, his father decided to retire and bought a small grocery storefront in Salem so the family could return home. Kevin, his parents and his sister Karla saw the business grow and in 1987 built a new 15,000 sq. ft facility to better serve the area. Now, 31 years later the business is prospering, and Kevin’s’ son Jordan is working with him. His daughter Elizabeth resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2017, Kevin launched and opened an ACE Hardware in Salem. He resides in Salem and is president of the Salem Chamber of Commerce. Kevin served on the Salem Blueprint Development Committee. He is on the Board of Directors of Cornerstone Bank, North Bend Rail Trail and Sportsman Lake and a member of the Salem Methodist Church.
Treasurer- Mark Kiger – (term expires 12-31-23)
Mark Kiger is a self employed Certified Public Accountant, specializing in tax and forensic accounting with an office in Salem, West Virginia. Mark was also a professor at Salem International University, in charge of the accounting program. Mark has a Masters Degree in Professional Accountancy from West Virginia University with a certificate in forensic accounting and fraud detection. Mr. Kiger earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Salem College in 1979. He completed advanced courses in accounting at the University of Maryland in 1989. He passed the examination to become a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Maryland in 1989. Mr. Kiger currently holds certified public accounting certificates from the states of Maryland and West Virginia. He was formerly employed as a CPA with the firm Toothman Rice & Co. in Clarksburg. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of CPAs. Professor Kiger serves as the faculty advisor for the SIU accounting club. Mr. Kiger is a past president of CRISS CROSS, Inc., a Harrison County United Way non-profit organization. He served on the board of directors for six years. He is a former board member of the North Bend Rail Trail Business Loan Program, a non-profit economic development organization. Mark has served as an adjunct faculty member for both SIU and Fairmont State College. His experience includes conducting a series of seminars for small business owners that were co-sponsored by local chambers of commerce. Mark served the U. S. Congress on Capitol Hill for five years in a technical support role. Mr. Kiger also served as the campaign treasurer for a candidate running for the office of United States Senator.
General Member – Stephen Kelley – (term expires 12-31-24)
Stephen Kelley is a Salem native. He is a 1995 graduate of Liberty High School and a 2000 graduate of Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. While in college, he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and held several leadership positions within the fraternity. Between classes and his work-study job as a student athletic trainer, Stephen worked for the Kurtz Construction Company in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. While at Kurtz Construction, Stephen got the opportunity to learn to restore the roofs and masonry structures of historic homes and buildings though-out the Philadelphia area. Stephen returned to Salem and began his architecture career with Blackwood Associates in Fairmont. He spent five years working there, first as an Intern Architect then as a Project Manager. Stephen was activated in November of 2003 and spent most of 2004 and part of 2005 in the Middle East with U.S. Army Reserve in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the summer of 2007, Stephen joined the firm of WYK Associates, Inc. in Clarksburg as Project Manager and is currently studying for his licensure as a registered architect. Stephen is a past board member of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and Harrison County Development Authority. He also served on the Blueprint Community Development Committee. He is also a lifetime member of VFW Post 9151 in Salem.
General Member – Gary Martin, Sr – (term expires 12-31-22)
General Member – Clarence ” Willie” Mutschelknaus – (term expires 12-31-23)
Willie was born in Salem, WV. He attained a BA from Salem College and operates Mutschelknaus Oil & Gas. He resides in Salem.
Friends Liaison – Joan Rine – (term expires 12-31-22)
Joan is the wife of Larry Rine, a mother, a grandmother and past homeroom mother. She has served as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader. Joan attended WVU and works as a Physical Therapist, presently for West Virginia Birth To Three. Joan is busy working on the small family farm and Passionate about the future of Fort New Salem! She Current is in her second term as chairperson for the “Friends of the Fort.”
